If you are asked to name the essential things a person has to do in today’s world to ensure they live a healthy and comfortable life, would eye exercises be part of your list? Admit it, it never even occurred to you that exercising your eyes is essential. In today’s world where our eyes are over taxed, now more than ever do exercising our eyes seem more important.
Let’s see now what are the leading causes of our eye’s degradation. Now, growing up you’ve no doubt heard it more times than you care to remember from your parents, that watching too much television or watching too close to it can cause you to wear glasses, or worse, make you go blind. But though we shrug it off, you can’t help but admit that there may be a shred of truth in that belief since many wear glasses today and the rise matches the rise of television viewers as well. Coincidence? I think not. Something to think about really.
What else can cause eye damage? Reading in low light. Now, reading by itself isn’t that harmful, but taken to excess and add to it reading in poor light, it’s the perfect recipe for eye damage. All the more we need to do eye exercises. Again, like in the case of television, we have been told to never read in the dark and to not read against the light. But did we ever strictly follow our elder’s rules and reading tips?
And now we go to computers. If you ask around, you will surely find that more than 90% of the people you know use computers on a daily basis. This is because more and more businesses now use computers to help their business. Even jobs that are seemingly labor related, they still have to log in every once in a while to computers. Then there’s the surge in popularity of social networks, which expose more people to the dangers of using the computer more than what is healthy. Let’s not go to the case of cellphones as well. Almost everyone has one, and everyday people look at those tiny screens to read messages or make calls. These all add up to more and more people having eyesight problems. I haven’t even mentioned the other gadgets that start to encroach on our daily lives like GPS devices and MP3 players. Granted mostly young people use these stuff, but that makes it more alarming to know. Imagine, all our kids today growing up having to wear glasses?
So what do these examples prove? Well, seeing how inundated we are with eyesight strength sappers, the need for eye exercises is all the more important. You might say that it is all genetic, which is true in some cases. But often times those genetic cases are enhanced or perhaps even caused by poor eye health due to lack of eye exercise. So before it is too late, try to learn the basics of exercising your eyes. Learn the right exercise for the kind of work you do. It won’t take more than a few minutes a day, plus the benefits will last for years. Totally worth it!
